Bioenergy is being prioritised over biodiversity and carbon storage in the EU climate plan

Bioenergy is being prioritised over biodiversity and carbon storage in the European Union (EU) climate plan. The reason bioenergy is being prioritised is due to there being a push to expand on renewable energy sources. In the case of the EU, however, there is a focus on bioenergy and not other renewable energy sources such as solar or wind power. The two research sources, Nature and Le Monde oppose this statement and believe that a growing population will not allow for bioenergy to be priortised. Secondly, biofuels are not so "clean" and "environmentally-friendly" as it seems, due to burning plants, which is still releasing greenhouse-gases. In summary, there are other ways of producing energy such as hydropower, wind and solar power. One does not need to stick to one method in energy production when there are other alternatives, especially when you are sacrificing carbon storage, which will contribute to climate change immensely and sacrificing biodiversity, which is an integral part of our environment.
