ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE for SUSTAINABLE ORAL HEALTHCARE

Artificial Intelligence is a field that has risen to different levels in recent times. It basically deals with the human work done by machines. It has proven to be a great contributor to many sectors. Even it helps us in our daily life work.

For increasing sustainability in both developed and developing countries, Software Development Goals(SDG) are incorporated. Oral health acts as an important initial step for achieving SDG.

Considering all fields, new technology helps in easing the workload. Similarly, the use of new technology in dentistry will help to improve the treatment methods and thus give a better outcome for people.

AI in the dentistry field will help in the following ways:

  1.  It can improve the quality of treatment.
  2.  It can increase the accuracy of diagnosis.
  3.   It will also improve the quality of prognosis prediction.
  4.   AI will help dental professionals to maintain the data in a more structured and efficient way.
  5.  AI will make the sensing of data easier.
  6.  AI helps dental professionals to detect various dental problems in an early stage. It even helps in detecting oral cancer.

According to the World Dental Federation, the definition of sustainability in dentistry is:  “Dentistry as a profession should integrate SDGs into daily practice and support a shift to a green economy in the pursuit of healthy lives and wellbeing for all through all stages of life”.

The conduction of AI in dentistry will increase environmental sustainability. Like:

  1.  Implementation of a haptic virtual reality dental trainer could reduce the consumption of plastic teeth.
  2. Using electronic patient records for managing records can help in saving papers.
  3.  Use of a Digital imaging system will eliminate the contamination of harmful chemicals. It will also minimize the radiation effects.

One great example of the contribution of AI in dentistry is Yomi. It is a robot-assisted surgical device. It has helped professionals to place 10,000 dental implants using a dental robotic platform. It was developed by Neocis.

Teledentistry is the field that helps to provide dental services by approaching technology. This way of incorporating technology helps to reduce the overall impact on the environment by lowering the use of carbon.

The traditional clinical ways used in dentistry are not so environmentally friendly. AI has created a discrete approach to dentistry. The implementation of AI in dentistry will reduce the emission of carbon into the environment thus reducing global warming. It will also help in saving energy.

Thus, for achieving environmental sustainability and good health, it is very necessary to use AI for dental work.
